And so it begins.......Ex PM Dato Sri Najib Bin Razak arrested!!

By now news has probably spread around the world that our Ex PM Najib has been arrested by MACC at his residence and it's believed he will be brought to court tomorrow.

Wow!! I never thought we would see the day but here we are. And so it begins.... As we watch this unfold I am reminded by this story :-

A long time ago in a small village somewhere there lived a zen master and the villagers often seeks his wisdom when anything of significance happens in the village.

'One day....there's a little boy and on his 14th birthday he gets a horse... and everybody in the village says, "how wonderful. The boy got a horse" And the Zen master says, "we'll see."

Two years later, the boy falls off the horse, breaks his leg, and everyone in the village says, "How terrible." And the Zen master says, "We'll see."

Then, a war breaks out and all the young men have to go off and fight... except the boy can't cause his legs all messed up. and everybody in the village says, "How wonderful."
 
Now the Zen master says, "We'll see."

I have high hopes just like the rest of the country to see that justice prevails in this milestone of our nationhood....... But........ 'We'll see"...........

I was born in 1970 in Johore Bahru. And growing up in those days was an absolute joy when Internet,Smartphones were still just a concept. My mom worked at the Blood bank at the Hospital and we stayed at the Goverment Housing at Jalan Haji Yaacob close by. The times indeed have changed. We had an Indian family as our neighbor and we always always got along just fine. I had friends of all races and wore shorts to primary school. It wasn't a big deal. The teachers were educators back then and took pride in their profession. When you caused trouble, spanking and caning was par for the course. The slide to Mazism....

Malaysia it seems is sliding dangerously towards a version of Nazism which I term as Mazism due to the constant and unrelenting use of race, religion, royalty. As with the Nazi's the new mushrooming of groups, NGO's etc promotes Malay pride (Master Race), anti jews, anti chinese and expresses dissatisfaction with things like  ICERD  without the need for proper dialogue and consultations. Sound familiar? And the authorities are slow to identify and curb such extremists views and allowing for these pressure groups with nefarious motives and intentions to gain traction and support throughout the malay citizens. What are they thinking? I am all for freedom of expression but when a group of people can threaten chaos if things doesn't go their way well....need I say more? Perhaps someone has to get hurt before we realise that this is a problem. And this is supposedly a New Malaysia. Civil Service = Free Money (Malaysian Context)

Malaysia in the late 60's and throughout the 70's all the way to the late 80's without a doubt had one of the best civil service in this region. The whole government machinery was highly respected and they did a wonderful job of bringing this nation out of it's agricultural economy into the manufacturing and knowledge based economy. That in turn brought the mass population out of poverty and the middle class was born in this era. The shock of the market crash in the late 80's was well managed and the people didn't suffer too many hardship as a result. The civil servants were mostly professional and English was well spoken among them and they were regarded at the international level. Somehow slowly but surely the quality of the civil service began to go down soon after. The civil service became the domain of politicians that brought with them cronyism and corruption into the decision making processes of policies and projects implemented by the government.
